Botanical Cushion Printing

Overview

This one‑day workshop introduces participants to the art of botanical block printing and guides them through designing and printing their own unique cushion cover.

Inspired by natural forms; leaves, flowers, seed pods, and organic shapes participants will explore motif development, block carving, colour mixing, and textile printing techniques.

By the end of the session, each participant will take home a beautifully hand‑printed cushion cover featuring their own botanical design.

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with creative experience who wish to explore surface design and hand printing.

What to bring

Participants Bring

• Apron or clothing suitable for messy work
• Three acrylic paint colours (System 3, Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, or Golden)
• Sketchbook, pencil, ruler, masking tape
• Botanical inspiration images (photos, cutouts, or images on phone)

Provided by Tutor (please bring £10 cash materials fee on the day)

• Carving blocks
• Carving tools
• Cushion cover fabric panels for trial prints
• Textile printing inks
• Printing equipment (brayers, trays, boards)
• Additional reference materials

About the tutor

The workshop is led by Justyna Medon, printmaker, educator, and wallpaper conservator. With expertise in hand‑printed textiles and historical surface design, she brings a thoughtful, research‑driven approach that encourages participants to explore pattern, craft, and botanical inspiration with confidence.

Minimum Age: Please note that you must be aged 16 or over to enrol on this course.
