About the course

Photo Challenge Treasure Hunt with Glyn Evans

The Photo Challenge is a photographic "treasure hunt" where you use your camera or mobile phone to photograph the "answers" to a range of clues.

The clues or subjects are deliberately flexible, and it is up to you to find something that you think best matches each clue. There are no right or wrong answers, so be creative and interpret the clues in your own way.

Take as many photographs as you like and complete the clues in any order.

As photography tutor Glyn Evans explains, "Photography is not about the camera; the camera is simply a tool to record your image. Great photography is about observation, curiosity and learning to see things that others might overlook." During the challenge, families will be encouraged to try simple photographic techniques such as changing their viewpoint, experimenting with composition, using light, shadow and reflections, and comparing different shots to see how creative choices can transform an image.

You will have 15 clues to find, all located in or around the Old Hall Building, Old Hall Garden and the Physic Garden.

The course is suitable for all ages, all cameras and mobile phones, and all levels of photographic experience, from complete beginners to more experienced photographers. The aim is to have fun, develop your observation skills, and discover new ways of seeing the world through photography.

About the Tutor

Glyn Evans is a freelance photographer based in Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. His work covers a wide range of subjects including press and local newspaper assignments, commercial projects, agricultural events, country shows, tourism, and contributions to Welsh photo libraries. He also specialises in capturing Welsh landscapes, seascapes, and heritage. In addition to his photography, Glyn teaches both Photography and Photoshop for community education workshops with local councils, helping learners of all levels develop their creative and technical skills.

Cost: £9 per child, £3 per parent/carer
Age guidance: 9–13 years.

Places are limited to 8 children, so early booking is recommended. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
